New Wind Turbine Design Good for Rural, Urban Environment
Posted on
Wind power is one of the fastest growing forms of alternative energy in the world. More and more, wind power mills are seen in the countryside, in large wind farms and for the most part, away from city life. But a new form of wind power is now designed to work in an urban environment. VOA producer Zulima Palacio has the story. Mill Arcega narrates.

The other states need to start following California’s example. It’s cheap and effective technology, not a full solution, but a huge part of our (hopefully inevitable) transition to green energy. Also fuck the birds and bats, it’s their fault for flying into the things.

great

@SereneiBE Wind is already about as cheap as coal in the US although more expensive than gas. Comparing it with oil doesn’t really makes sense, since oil is for transportation, not for electricity generation. Making electricity to feed the grid with oil at current price would be silly expensive.

Wind spire vertical axis turbans: bird friendly.

@SereneiBE OIl is more convient we are willing to pay for that in the US

The video mentioned independent tests, but neglected to tell us the results. I guess we’re supposed to assume that everything checked out because they’re still playing the video.

@nek0s You’re right we have the technology, but I’m not sure corrupt is the word to use.In order to become completely dependent on WWS power within the next 40 yrs it would take an amount of manufacturing and construction above anything we’ve ever done,WW2 scale. With WWS costing about 4x as much for the same amount of power(not including start up) from a business standpoint it’s not feasible to do it on that large of scale. It wont happen in 1 decade or even 5.Long term phase out is more realistic

December 4th, 2011 - 12:27
@SonOfAbba “Countless” meaning “I have no idea how many”, rather than “too many to count”. Research your “fact” and get back to us.

We have the potential to reach 100% renewable energy in the US, problem is that so many Americans are still disillusioned that renewable energy will never be as cheep and affordable as coal and oil.
Out in Brazil, Wind is cheeper then natural gas. According to the National Electric Power Agency, their wind power cost are US 61.9$/Mwh while natural Gas is 64.17$/Mwh.
Politicians love to downtalk renewables in the US.
But Renewables are the way to a cleaner sustainable future.

We have someone up near Gaylord Michigan which I know of 2.. of these type wind turbines.. they were both working real well but I noticed lately that both of them are broken or something, on a windy day both were not working..

@nek0s Your comment needs a citation or link to a report of this other technology. Making vague references only seeks to further the rumor mill that is the internet. Either you fabricated your claim, or you can prove it. I leave it to you to post proof, that we all may learn.

How about the countless Golden Eagles that are killed in So. Cal? Don’t think too many house cats are nabbing them.
